Janet Tamblyn

Janet Tamblyn

Job Title: Operations Manager

Time at ITP: 9.5 years

How has your position evolved since you started at ITP?

I’ve had the distinct pleasure of watching ITP change and grow over the last 9.5 years. I was hired to help build ITP’s Operations Dept. to support growth. I started running all operations for ITP supporting clients predominantly in Milwaukee with a few in Madison as well. Fast forward to today where I manage 2 Service Delivery Specialists who support the day-to-day needs of over 300 clients in the Madison, Milwaukee, and Appleton markets, along with a Project Coordinator who manages all projects.

What do you like best about working in tech?

I like how technology is ever-evolving. It’s a pleasure to be a part of a company where we can partner with businesses to provide sound consulting advice on how they can leverage technology to power their business. And in the end, we’re there to support and celebrate their successes.

Share a piece of advice to women considering a career in a tech field:

Do what you love! The field of technology is fast-paced and ever-changing.  There are so many different areas within technology where you can create your path to success. Be confident in who you are and what you bring to the table, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Remain open to the possibilities of change. Above all else, work hard to develop mutually trusting relationships with your peers and clients. Soft skills are the secret sauce to success. Lead with empathy, humility, and transparency. Be proactive and creative in solutions to business challenges. Bring your unique perspective and talents to the field and become a part of something exciting!

What’s a fun fact about you?

Nature is my balance to the high energy of the IT world. Whether it be a nature hike or tent camping in the mountains, reconnecting with the peaceful beauty of our world keeps my tank full to enjoy the challenges that my job brings.

Job Title: HR Manager

Time at ITP: 1.5 years

How has your position evolved since you started at ITP?

When I started, my role was about developing an HR dept at ITP. As I have developed this department, my role within other departments and relationships with colleagues developed. It became more than interpreting and enforcing policies, but collaboration within teams on how to create better experiences for all.

What do you like best about working in tech?

I’m surrounded by incredibly intelligent and talented people that can help me when I can’t connect to the printer, internet, or Microsoft Teams. I can’t thank them enough!

Job Title: Marketing Manager

Time at ITP: 4 years

How has your position evolved since you started at ITP?

As we’ve gotten bigger, my role has become much more focused. I used to order office furniture and coordinate the holiday party. But today all of my efforts are directed towards creating lead activity for the sales organization. It’s not a good or bad thing, it’s just the evolution of an organization as it grows.

What do you like best about working in tech?

Being on the cutting edge of tools and services that are affecting businesses all over the world. Just last week we had a demo of an amazing security camera system that uses AI to identify and find individuals based on what they’re wearing or make/model of a vehicle. This type of technology will change the way businesses operate.

It’s amazing to see the growth in diversity in technology over the last few years, but there is still so much room to grow. My advice to women entering the job market in a technology-focused industry is to always advocate for yourself. Never be afraid to ask for something that will make your work life better –  like educational opportunities, work remote options, or responsibilities that will expand your role. The worst they can say is no.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I’m a Gopher! I graduated from the U of M living in a sea of Badgers.

Since I work closely with my clients on a day-to-day basis, those business relationships have continued to become stronger and it’s one of the best parts of my role.

What do you like best about working in tech?

Coming from a creative background, where you simply are using the technology, it has allowed me to expand my knowledge of what happens in the background and how it all comes together within a business environment.
